Baby Blue Jay

Abandoning the nest
seemed a mighty test;
my wings were not strong,
everything appeared wrong.

I peered over the edge
then gazed at the ledge
where my mother perched
as her intent eyes searched.

Suddenly she swooped,
pecked the ground then looped
around me giving food
that tasted, oh, so good.

I sighed in relief;
felt proud in my belief;
my mother was the best
and I could stay and rest.
